Description
What type of wine is it
Auxey-Duresses Premier Cru by Comte Armand is a red wine from the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, made from Pinot Noir. Its style offers freshness and structure, with integrated tannins and a marked mineral imprint. Fermentation takes place in wooden vats with indigenous yeasts, and the subsequent aging in oak imparts a precise profile, suitable for both immediate consumption and bottle aging.
Where does it come from
The Auxey-Duresses appellation is located in Burgundy, within the Côte de Beaune. Comte Armand selects a south-facing plot in the "Les Argillas" area, on especially limestone-rich soil that imparts a distinctive minerality and a defined palate texture to the wine. The vines average 40 years of age and are cultivated according to biodynamic principles.
How is it produced
After harvesting, the grapes undergo total destemming. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, to provide a linear varietal expression and a progressive build-up of structure. This is followed by 18 months of aging in oak barrels, designed to integrate the tannic texture and maintain balance between substance, freshness, and aromatic clarity.
Tasting notes
In the glass it appears as a deep ruby red. The nose perceives small red and black berries, reminiscent of currant and blackberry, followed by delicate spices. On the palate, it is intense and rich, with well-integrated tannins offering a soft and enveloping sensation; the progression retains freshness and a mineral note consistent with the limestone soil, finishing cleanly.
Food pairings
At the table, it accompanies meat dishes where juiciness and spice meet a balanced structure. It is especially recommended with roast lamb and duck confit, pairings that complement the wine’s intensity and soft tannins without overpowering its freshness and precise fruit.
When to serve it
It is enjoyable when young for its fruit clarity and freshness, while already showing complete structure. Aging in oak and integrated tannins offer good cellaring potential for up to ten years. It is an ideal choice for those seeking a precise Burgundy red, perfect for accompanying a meat dinner while maintaining balance.
