Description

What kind of wine it is

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge by Clos des Papes is a dry red from the southern Rhône, made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. It has a full and structured profile, with well-integrated tannins and a freshness that enhances its drinkability. Vinification involves alcoholic fermentation and aging in large oak casks, without sweet notes from the wood, to express balance and potential for bottle ageing.

Where it comes from

Produced in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the southern part of the Rhône Valley, this wine comes from 24 hectares divided into several plots. The selection of different parcels combines exposures and microclimates, while the Mediterranean climate encourages full ripening and retains tension and freshness.

How it is made

The winemaking process includes alcoholic fermentation and aging in large oak casks for 12–15 months. This approach integrates the tannic structure and preserves the varietal profile of the blend, promoting balance and evolutionary potential.

Tasting notes

It shows an intense, brilliant ruby red color. On the nose, aromas of red fruits such as raspberry emerge, followed by notes of black and white pepper and a subtle menthol nuance. The palate is full and well-proportioned, with solid structure and fine tannins. The finish is extended by a return of spice and herbal notes, with freshness that keeps the drink lively.

Food pairings

This wine pairs well with flavorful meats and dishes with a rich base, where structure and spices find a natural balance. Excellent with grilled rack of lamb and pasta dishes with meat ragù, it also matches regional recipes like daube Provençale or gigot d’agneau with herbs, typical of southern France, which call for a full-bodied yet measured red.

When to serve it

Ideal for important lunches or dinners featuring roasted or grilled meats, this red is also rewarding after a few years of aging, when the spicy notes integrate and the texture becomes silkier. It is recommended to give it a brief period to breathe to highlight the fruit, and it offers great potential for ageing over time.
