Description

What type of wine is it

Castello Monsanto's Chianti Classico Riserva is a Tuscan red wine with a structured and complex profile. Made from a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino grapes, it represents the style of the Barberino Val d’Elsa area. It stands out for its enveloping mouthfeel, led by elegant tannins and a long, well-defined persistence.

Where does it come from

This wine originates in the municipality of Barberino Val d'Elsa, in the province of Florence, an area renowned for the cultivation of traditional Tuscan grape varieties. The vineyards are located within the Chianti Classico territory, an ideal environment for producing structured reds with excellent aging potential. Its regional origin guarantees a distinct identity closely tied to the characteristics of the soil.

How it is produced

Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino grapes are handpicked and carefully sorted to preserve the integrity of the bunches. Fermentation takes place in truncated conical stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature for about twenty days, allowing for gradual extraction. Maturation continues in French oak barrels, partly new and partly second use, and is completed in the bottle.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it reveals an intense and concentrated ruby red color. The aromatic profile opens with notes of ripe wild berries, enriched by pleasant balsamic hints and delicate vegetal nuances. On the palate, it is warm and layered, supported by a tasting progression marked by refined tannins. The finish offers a lingering close and a prolonged persistence.

Food pairings

Its tannic texture and enveloping structure make it ideal with grilled red meats and braised game dishes. This wine enhances rich dishes and balances their aromatic components. It’s perfect to accompany platters of aged cheeses, and is the ideal choice for the classic bistecca alla fiorentina.

When to serve it

This red is perfect for convivial meals where the structure of the wine plays a central role. Thanks to its warm and layered profile, it is especially suited to the cooler seasons. It’s a solid choice to accompany meat-based dinners, as it expresses its best balance and tasting elegance after adequate time to rest in the glass.
