Description
What kind of wine is it
Poliziano's Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a Tuscan red made predominantly from Prugnolo Gentile, the local synonym of Sangiovese. Alongside the main grape, Colorino, Canaiolo and Merlot also feature, contributing to the wine's structure and complexity. The result is a characterful red that combines elegance and depth, in keeping with the denomination's style.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from vineyards in the municipality of Montepulciano, in the Sienese hills of Tuscany. Harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand, a choice that allows for careful selection of the bunches destined for vinification. This geographic origin, together with the Prugnolo Gentile-based varietal blend, shapes the identity of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano produced by Poliziano.
How it is made
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with punch-downs alternating with pump-overs to encourage the extraction of phenolic compounds from the skins. The wine then ages in oak barriques for sixteen months before bottling. This process builds the tannic structure and aromatic complexity that characterize the wine.
Tasting notes
It shows a bright, limpid ruby red color. On the nose, aromas of mulberries and plums unfold, enriched by spicy notes of cinchona bark and tobacco. On the palate it's balanced, supported by polished tannins and good freshness that carries the sip through to the finish.
What to pair it with
This Nobile di Montepulciano is perfect with dishes featuring meat ragù, braises and roasts. It pairs just as seamlessly with game and aged cheeses, where the wine's tannic structure and freshness find a natural balance with more intense flavors.
When to serve it
It's a wine suited to substantial, meat-based meals, where its tannic structure and aromatic complexity can fully express themselves. It shines on convivial occasions in the colder months, especially alongside game dishes or braises.
