Description

What kind of wine is it

Nero d’Avola by Li Ciuri is a red wine produced in Sicily, an authentic expression of the territory. It is characterized by a soft and velvety style, featuring a broad structure and a pleasantly persistent finish. The vinification process involves destemming and gentle crushing, followed by fermentation at controlled temperatures. A bottle aging period of three months completes the process, defining its clear and pleasant fruity profile.

Where it comes from

This wine is born in western Sicily, near the city of Trapani, an area renowned for viticulture. The connection to the land is deep and is reflected in the name of the winery, Li Ciuri, which means “The Flowers” in Sicilian dialect. The island’s identity is also evident in the bottle’s design, whose label recalls the famous maiolica tiles of Caltagirone. The origin is entirely within the Sicilia appellation and faithfully represents the unique geographical features of this specific area of origin.

How it is produced

The manual harvest of the grapes takes place in the first ten days of September to ensure the integrity of the fruit until it reaches the cellar. The grapes are then destemmed and gently crushed to allow for a measured extraction of noble compounds. The must then undergoes a controlled temperature maceration, a key phase for concentrating color and the typical aromatic components of the variety. The cycle ends with a rest of three months in the bottle before the wine is released on the market.

Tasting notes

At service, the glass fills with an intense, bright ruby red color, with vivid reflections tending toward purple. The bouquet is clean and well-defined, featuring aromas of wild blackberries, cherries, currants, and blueberries, finely interwoven with spicy pepper notes and light hints of clove. The palate is broad on entry, with a dynamic and balanced progression. The tasting profile closes with a good persistent finish that faithfully echoes the sensations perceived on the nose.

Food pairings

At the table, this red naturally and harmoniously matches meat main courses and platters of aged cheeses. Its natural softness and rich persistence enhance more flavorful and structured dishes, skillfully balancing strong flavors. The wine also goes very well with central recipes from the Sicilian culinary tradition, especially those with a pronounced spicy component. A classic pairing is “falsomagro alla siciliana,” where the wine’s structure supports the dish without ever overpowering its aromas.

When to serve it

It is the ideal choice for convivial lunches and dinners where you want to bring to the table a red with a clearly defined and instantly recognizable aromatic profile. Thanks to the well-judged bottle aging, each sip is immediately harmonious and well-integrated, showing an evident and pleasant fruity character. The wine is best enjoyed in the short term, allowing you to fully appreciate the freshness of the dark fruits and the spicy nuances that the grape expresses so vividly.
