Barolo DOCG is een van de beroemdste Italiaanse wijnen ter wereld. Het wordt geproduceerd met 100% Nebbiolo -druiven in de gemeenten Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba en gedeeltelijk op het grondgebied van de gemeenten Monforte d'Alba, Novello, La Morra, Verduno, Grinzane Cavour, Diano d'Alba, Cherasco en Roddi.

De benaming kan op het etiket worden gevolgd door aanvullende geografische vermeldingen die zijn toe te schrijven aan zeer geschikte gebieden die in de volksmond bekend staan als "cru". De DOCG Barolo biedt een breed panorama van crus , die variëren per bodem, klimaat, hoogte; om maar een paar van de bekendste en meest gewaardeerde te noemen: Cannubi, Cerequio, Lazzarito, Villero, Bricco delle Viole, Terlo, Paiagallo, Bussia, Liste, Serralunga d'Alba .

De minimale rijpingsperiode voor Barolo DOCG is 38 maanden (18 op hout) en 62 maanden (ook 18 op hout) voor de Riserva-versie. Barolo DOCG is een wijn met een grote persoonlijkheid en charme, die kracht en elegantie combineert.

Wat de jaargangen betreft, zijn de critici unaniem in hun beoordeling van de periode 2006-2018 als een ononderbroken reeks uitstekende jaargangen met 2010 en 2016 als topjaargangen.
