Red Wines for Winter from
South America
Nothing beats the cold winter blues than a bottle of red wine. In this month’s review, we will feature red wines that could warm your weary bones and gloomy moods. Ten wine recommendations are presented you to from Chile and Argentina. These wines are of varying styles and varietals. A number of them are also moderately priced, definitely of great value.
Note: The wines are listed in approximate order of their flavor and weight intensity- from lighter to fuller.

Truly exquisite wines. The standard Cabernet features a beautiful, ruby color. Moderate intensity and medium long-finish. Tastes of plums, black currant, toast and spicy oak.
The 2005 Merlot possess a deep, dark ruby red color filled with notes of plum, cassis, blueberries, liquorice spice and slight hint of chocolate and mocha. Full body and medium-long finish.
An elegant Pinot Noir. Full-bodied and a bit rugged in style. Brimming with notes of fresh cherry, strawberry, raspberry and plum, with slight earthy undertones.
The Vision Cabernet offers pleasant raspberry, currant, graphite and toast notes. It’s richness is extraordinary. It has long, minerally finish.
The 2006 Cono Sur Colchagua Valley comprises of 85% Carmenere, 9% Caberrnet, $% Syrah, 2% Aspiran Bouchet. It features a rich garnet color. tastes of blackberry and blueberry with earthy undertones. Full-bodied and fruity. Well-balanced with persistent, long finish. Drink through 2009.
VINA HARAS DE PIRQUE, 2004 CABERNET SAUVIGNON, MAIPO VALLEY, $10-$12
Excellent value wine. Luscious and full-bodied. Possess aromas of cassis, loganberry, cedar, tobacco, wet earth, and toasty oak. 7.5% Carmenere, 5% Petit Verdot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc. Drink through 2009. Alcohol content: 14.5%.
Argentina Red Wine Recommendations
MIL PIEDRAS - Mendoza
The 2005 Sangiovese features ripe cherry color, dried fruits aromas, spices, cherry, raspberry and anise flavors. Supple and lightly oaked. Made from 100% Sangiovese. 1600 Cases.
The 2005 Malbec is bordeux red in color. It features aromas of wild blackberries and tastes of raspberry, plums and gentle tannins. It is full-bodied and good textured. 100% Malbec. 2900 Cases.
The 2005 Cabernet is flat with red-fruit aromas. Brimming with notes of cassis and plum. Medium-bodied with persistent, long finish. Alcohol content 13.5%, 2500 Cases.
The 2005 Merlot is deep color in color. Features bouquet of berry jam and cinnamon. Laced with subtle tannins and long, smooth finish. 2000 Cases.
