July 2005 Warm Weather White Wines

Definitely hot stuffs! This month, we will feature refreshing variety of white wines perfect for the pleasantly warm weather. We have Rieslings considered to be warm weather wines, Italian 2003 whites and Champagnes. These wines may be a bit pricier than my usual recommendations but they are really worth it. Washington State Riesling Reviews CHATEAU STE. MICHELLE * 2004 COLUMBIA VALLEY, $9-$10 * 2004 COLD CREEK VINEYARD, $13-$15 Rieslings are absolutely perfect for summer. The Columbia Valley features a delicate combination of fruity and floral overtones. It is medium bodied and slightly off dry. Tasting of honeysuckle, apple, accentuated with citrusy hints. 1.8% residual sugar. 375,000 cases. Medium full bodied is the Cold Creek Reisling. It is rich and ripe. Bursting with tropical fruit flavors and honeysuckle. 4,300 cases. Drink through 2006. COLUMBIA CREST * 2004 TWO VINES, COLUMBIA VALLEY, $6-$7.50 Temptingly sweet. Very distinct in character. Taste reminiscent of honeysuckle, apple and plum. Medium bodied and persistent finish. 50,000 cases. Drink through 2006. SNOQUALMIE VINEYARDS * 2004 WINEMAKER'S SELECT, COLUMBIA VALLEY, $6-$7.50 Fragrant and floral. This Riesling is moderately sweet and medium bodied. Laced with floral and fruity characters. Possess medium long finish. 15,000 cases. Drink through 2006. Italian White Wine Reviews BORTOLUZZI * 2003 PINOT GRIGIO, VENEZIE GIULIA (IGT), $15-$17 * 2003 SAUVIGNON, VENEZIE GIULIA (IGT), $15-$17 Bortoluzzi excelled really well in 2003. Its Pinot Grigio features luscious flavors of melon, apple, peach and cherimoya with overtones of grapefruit, lime and toast. It is full-bodied and rich in style. The Sauvignon is great tasting with flavors of pink grapefruit and peach. Features great balance, supple texture and full body. Drink through 2006. BUCCI * 2003 VERDICCHIO DEI CASTELLI DI JESI CLASSICO SUPERIORE, $18-$20 Supple, lightly oaked and well-balanced. This Verdicchio features the flavors of apple, roasted nut and lemon. It possesses subtle oaky tendencies. Drink through 2006. ENRICO SANTINI, CAMPO ALLA CASA * 2003 BOLGHERI, $23-$25 Delicious blend. Supple in texture and well balanced in style. Taste reminiscent of peach. lime, honey, toast. 60% Vermentino, 40% Sauvignon Blanc. 600 cases. Drink through 2006.
