Wine Glasses

If you are new to the world of wine drinking – you will be surprised to find out how in depth we can get with our wine glasses.  Having the right glassware can compliment the composition of the wine you are enjoying.  There are certain glasses that should be used for red wine, certain glasses for white wine and champagne as well.

While how much impact the type of wine glass you use has on the taste is debated – we recommend knowing a little bit about your options before you start to buy fine stemware.

Here are some frequently asked questions about choosing the right wine glasses:

  1. Why do they have different shapes?
The shape of a wine glass is meant to accentuate the tasting experience.  Larger glasses will allow additional airflow which can bring out the hidden flavors.  The opening of the glass may be shaped wider to allow the aroma to reach your nose.  The opening will also try to place the wine in a direct area of your mouth upon tasting.  Pretty scientific stuff.
  2. Does it really matter?
Some say yes – some say no.  If you are not a everyday drinker – you realistically will not be able to tell the difference and a standard set of wine glasses will suit you just fine.
  3. Stemmed vs Stemless?
Stemless wine glasses have definitely been all the craze lately.  Mainly this is because of their overall usability.  They take up less space, don’t tend to topple and put your drink firmly in your hand.  Stemmed wine glasses will always be the “taster’s choice” as it allows for balanced swirling and keeps the warmth of your hand from changing the temperature of the wine.
