Description
What kind of wine it is
10 Vendemmie from Tenuta Ulisse is a red wine made from Montepulciano grapes grown in Abruzzo. The wine displays a structured and complex style, with an elegant and nuanced profile. Fermentation in steel and aging for 12 months in French oak barriques impart freshness, a substantial body and silky tannins, offering remarkable aging potential.
Where it comes from
Tenuta Ulisse is located in the heart of Abruzzo, at the foot of Gran Sasso, on limestone-clay hills facing southeast. The climate features significant daily temperature variations, which are ideal for grape ripening, while altitudes between 200 and 400 meters and good ventilation help preserve the health and aromatic richness of the grapes. The area boasts an ancient winemaking history and today the estate is a benchmark for quality in the region.
How it’s made
The Montepulciano grapes are hand-harvested, with careful selection of the best bunches. After destemming, fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, with 15–20 days of maceration to extract color and tannins. Part of the wine ages for 12 months in French oak barriques, while the remainder stays in steel to retain freshness and liveliness. The final blend ensures balance and stability.
Tasting notes
Visually, 10 Vendemmie displays an intense ruby red color with violet hues. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet with scents of ripe plum and cherry jam, accompanied by notes of tobacco and sweet spices. With aeration, aromas of bitter cocoa, roasted coffee, and a delicate vanilla emerge. On the palate, it is full-bodied with soft, velvety tannins, good acidity, and a persistent finish recalling dark chocolate and spices.
Pairings
This wine pairs well with roasted or grilled red meats, game such as braised wild boar, and hearty first courses with ragù. Among typical regional dishes, arrosticini abruzzesi and timballo alla teramana stand out. On a national level, it complements rosemary beef tagliata, radicchio and sausage risotto, and dishes with porcini mushrooms and aged cheeses.
When to serve
10 Vendemmie should be served at 18-20 °C in large glasses to enhance its aromatic profile. The structure and wood aging allow for immediate enjoyment after a few years, while cellar aging can continue for at least 8-10 years to develop further complexity. It is recommended to uncork the bottle at least an hour in advance or to use decanting to bring out the wine’s bouquet and flavor.
