Description

What kind of wine it is

The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico produced by Tommasi is a structured red wine, made from Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta grapes. Its character is shaped through a careful drying process, which gives the wine an intense profile and a recognizable velvety texture. Aging in Slavonian oak barrels enriches its aromatic and flavorful depth. It represents a true expression of the Veneto region, featuring good complexity and clear fruity aromas.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the La Groletta and Conca d’Oro vineyards, lying on the hills of Sant’Ambrogio. We are in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, where viticulture expresses a distinct and well-defined territorial identity. The hillside vineyard exposure ensures the grapes have notable intensity and provides the ideal conditions for the drying technique that defines the style of this historic and renowned production area in Veneto.

How it is produced

The Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta grapes are harvested in October and immediately laid out on special racks. The bunches rest in large drying rooms for three months, undergoing a slow drying process that naturally concentrates the aromatic and sugar components. Afterward, maturation continues in Slavonian oak barrels at controlled temperatures until bottling. This process results in the richness of the dried grapes combined with a soft texture.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color with rich purple highlights. Its aromas are clean and refined, offering clear scents of ripe cherries and plums. On the palate, it is full, complex, and velvety, supported by a solid body that steadily fills the mouth. The taste progression is consistent with the aromas and finishes with lingering, enveloping flavors of dried grapes. Each sip balances high aromatic intensity with a gratifying, continuous roundness.

Food pairings

The body and softness of this red make it the perfect companion for red meat and game dishes. It pairs naturally with intensely flavored recipes, supporting long cooking times thanks to its dense velvety texture. It also finds great balance alongside aged cheeses, where the fruity aromas balance the savory nature of the dish. Faithful to its regional roots, it beautifully complements Veneto’s culinary tradition, finding its best expression with Amarone-braised meats, which it enhances with its concentration.

When to serve

It is ideal for occasions demanding a full-bodied red, able to stand up to the complexity of meat-based dinners or cheese selections. The structure imparted by drying and subsequent aging in wood gives it excellent ageing potential in bottle. It shows an intriguing ability to evolve, developing broader aromas over the medium term. It can be appreciated immediately for its structural immediacy, offering an enveloping and complex profile that is perfect for convivial moments.
