Description

What kind of wine it is

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico produced by Tommasi is a structured red wine, made from Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta grapes. Its character is shaped through a carefully managed drying process, which gives the wine an intense profile and a distinctive velvety texture. Aging in Slavonian oak barrels enriches its aromatic and flavor depth. It is a faithful interpretation of the Veneto region, characterized by notable complexity and clear fruity aromas.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the La Groletta and Conca d’Oro vineyards, lying on the hills of Sant’Ambrogio. These are situated in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area, where viticulture expresses a clearly defined territorial identity. The exposure of the hillside vineyards endows the grapes with remarkable intensity and provides the ideal conditions for the drying technique that defines the style of this historic and renowned area of Veneto.

How it is made

The Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Oseleta grapes are harvested in October and immediately placed on special racks. The bunches rest in spacious drying rooms for three months, undergoing a slow dehydration that naturally concentrates their aromatic and sugar components. Subsequently, maturation continues in Slavonian oak barrels at controlled temperature until bottling. This process preserves the richness of the dried grapes combined with a smooth texture.

Tasting notes

In the glass it displays a deeply intense ruby red color, accented by deep purple reflections. The bouquet is marked by clarity and finesse, revealing distinct aromas of ripe cherries and plums. On the palate, it’s full, complex, and velvety, supported by a solid body that consistently fills the mouth. The tasting progression is in line with the aromas, finishing on persistent and enveloping notes of dried grape. The sip offers both intense aromatics and a gratifying, lingering roundness.

Food pairings

The fullness and softness of this red make it the perfect partner for dishes based on red meats and game. It pairs naturally with recipes of intense flavors, as it supports long cooking times thanks to its dense, velvety texture. It also finds excellent balance alongside mature cheeses, where the fruity aromas offset the dish’s saltiness. True to its region, it faithfully accompanies Veneto’s culinary tradition and is particularly expressive with Amarone-braised meat, which it enhances with added concentration.

When to serve

It’s ideal for occasions that call for a full-bodied red wine, capable of standing up to complex meat dinners or cheese selections. The texture derived from drying and subsequent aging in wood gives it an excellent ability to evolve over time in the bottle. It shows interesting aging potential, developing more open aromas in the medium term. It can be enjoyed immediately upon opening for its engaging structure, offering an enveloping and complex profile perfect for convivial moments.
