Description
What kind of wine it is
Brouilly Joseph Drouhin is a red wine from Beaujolais made from Gamay grapes grown in the northern part of the region. The semi-carbonic maceration with whole bunches shapes the style towards a balanced and accessible profile, focused on fruit and sustained by lively freshness. Ageing in tanks for 10–12 months completes the picture with soft tannins and a measured structure, maintaining good persistence.
Where it comes from
This Brouilly is born in the Brouilly area, one of the best-known and most extensive crus of northern Beaujolais. The Gamay vineyards are located on the steep slopes of the Mont Brouilly hills, a prominent feature recognizable by its volcano-like shape and a small house on its summit. Soils range from granite to rich alluvial lands, offering a diversity that supports a harmonious balance between vibrancy and softness.
How it is made
Production follows the traditional Beaujolais method with semi-carbonic maceration and use of whole bunches. Harvesting is manual and the grapes are rigorously selected both in the vineyard and in the cellar to work only with impeccable raw material. Maceration lasts from 4 to 10 days, after which the wine ages in tanks for 10–12 months before bottling, maintaining a precise, essential technical approach.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows a lively ruby colour. The nose reveals strong violet and lilac aromas, followed by notes of wild blackberry and cranberry, with a linear and well-defined aromatic profile. The palate is balanced, with soft tannins accompanying energetic freshness; the finish is persistent and clearly recalls wild berries, without weighing down the sip.
Pairings
At the table, it pairs well with white meat dishes, poultry and soft cheeses, where freshness and soft tannins enhance succulence without overpowering the flavours. It marries well with chicken or turkey preparations and less robust cooking methods, even with light sauces, thus enhancing the fruity profile of Gamay. The persistent wild berry finish keeps the pairing continuous and balanced.
When to serve it
This is a red wine suitable for many occasions at the table, when you want a wine that is balanced, fresh and has soft tannins. It's perfect for lunches and dinners with white meats, poultry or soft cheeses, thanks to its smooth but not thin profile. The semi-carbonic setting and tank ageing make for immediate drinkability, with a clean and persistent finish.
