Description
What kind of wine it is
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva by Capanna is a structured and elegant red wine, made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes. It is produced in the prestigious Montosoli area, north of Montalcino in Tuscany, and represents the most complex and long-lived expression of the winery. The winemaking process involves long maceration and extended aging in wood, resulting in a profile focused on aromatic depth and remarkable evolution potential over time.
Where it comes from
This Brunello di Montalcino Riserva originates from the renowned Montosoli area, historically recognized for its unique terroir. The grapes come from the oldest vineyards owned by Capanna, an estate managed by the Cencioni family since 1957. The rigorous selection of grapes from the ripest parcels ensures a wine that faithfully reflects the identity of Montalcino and enhances the structure and distinctive character of its homeland.
How it is made
The winemaking starts with a long skin maceration of about thirty to thirty-five days. Fermentation takes place in truncated-conical vats of Slavonian oak at controlled temperature, where spontaneous malolactic fermentation also occurs. The wine then ages in Slavonian oak barrels for over forty months, followed by a further bottle refinement of at least fifteen months to promote perfect tannin integration.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it displays a bright and intense ruby red color. The nose is broad and layered, characterized by notes of ripe red fruit and jam, enriched by nuances of spice and licorice. On the palate it reveals great structure, supported by well-integrated tannins and soft components that balance the tasting experience. The finish is long and persistent, confirming overall balance and elegance.
Food pairings
This wine naturally accompanies rich and flavorful meat dishes. It is ideal paired with roast red meats, enhancing typical dishes such as Florentine steak thanks to its dense tannins. It also pairs perfectly with game dishes, like stewed wild boar, where the dish’s spicy notes meet the glass’s licorice hints, as well as with platters of aged cheeses.
When to serve it
Suitable for substantial lunches and important dinners, this red wine requires the right attention to be fully appreciated. Its long maturation period makes it perfect to enjoy immediately for its aromatic intensity, but it also offers excellent prospects for long aging in the cellar. To make the most of its complexity and ensure perfect aromatic expression, proper oxygenation before serving is recommended.
