Description
What kind of wine is it?
Mauro VS by Bodegas Mauro is a red wine made from Tempranillo grapes grown in the Douro region of Castile and León. It stands out for its full body and precise structure, with ripe fruit supported by fine tannins and well-integrated oak. The long aging of 26 months in French oak barrels adds complexity and depth, allowing the wine to evolve well in the bottle.
Where does it come from?
The grapes come from Tudela de Duero and Traspinedo, in the heart of Castile-León along the Duero River. The vineyards are located in an area characterized by favorable conditions for growing Tempranillo, which contribute to aromatic concentration and defined tannins.
How it is produced
The winemaking process involves hand-picking the grapes. The wine ages for 26 months in French oak barrels, a process that helps develop balance and complexity before bottling.
Tasting notes
The color is a deep ruby red with garnet highlights. The nose reveals notes of ripe red and black fruit, sweet spices, toasted wood, cocoa, and tobacco. On the palate, it is succulent and silky, with a perceptible freshness and precise, smooth tannins. The finish is long and persistent, with fruity and spicy aftertaste and a dry finish.
What does it pair with?
It pairs well with roast meats, game, and aged cheeses thanks to its structure and tannins that support rich, flavorful dishes. With beef or lamb, it enhances roasted and grilled dishes, while with game, it thrives in slow preparations and spicy sauces. Locally, it pairs well with lechazo asado and aged Iberian ham. Its woody notes and freshness also lend themselves well to hard cheeses, cleansing the palate without overpowering the aromas.
When to serve it
Ideal for important meals or in cooler seasons. It expresses itself best at 16–18°C in a large glass after a brief period of oxygenation or decanting. The oak maturation and solidity of Tempranillo support good aging and offer an interesting progression over time. The optimal drinking period extends over the next few years, when the tannins and spices will further integrate and maintain their vivacity and harmony.
