Description
What kind of wine it is
Pommery’s Brut Royal Champagne is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. It offers a harmonious style, with freshness, structure, and complexity in balance thanks to a moderate dosage. The bottle refermentation using the traditional method and the aging on the lees create a fine perlage and aromatic persistence that enhance its elegance.
Where it comes from
The grapes for Brut Royal Champagne come from the Champagne region, particularly the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. The continental climate, with cold winters and mild summers, supports slow ripening and high natural acidity. The chalky and clay soils contribute prominent minerality and solid structure. The grapes are selected from 40 villages, ensuring excellent quality and a distinct aromatic profile.
How it is produced
Production involves hand harvesting grapes at optimal ripeness, followed by gentle pressing and separation of the musts. The blending of the cuvées respects the house style. After the addition of liqueur de tirage, the second fermentation takes place in the bottle, followed by extended aging on the lees to develop complexity and finesse.
Tasting Notes
Visually, Brut Royal Champagne shows a straw yellow color with golden hues and a very fine, continuous perlage. The nose reveals scents of white flowers, citrus, fresh almond, and a slight note of bread crust. The palate is fresh and lively, supported by vibrant acidity. The sip is elegant, with hints of green apple, white peach, and a slightly saline mineral finish that prolongs the persistence.
Food Pairing
Brut Royal Champagne is highly versatile at the table. Perfect as an aperitif, it pairs beautifully with seafood such as oysters, shellfish, and langoustines. It also goes well with French cuisine, including baked Coquilles Saint-Jacques and quiche Lorraine. It is excellent with delicate appetizers, refined cured meats, soft cheeses, and light fish soups, enhancing the wine’s freshness and structure.
When to Serve
Pommery Brut Royal Champagne is best enjoyed young, within the first few years after disgorgement, when it best expresses freshness and aromatic vivacity. Aging on the lees allows for brief bottle evolution and enriches toasted and dried fruit notes. Serve well chilled. A short rest in the cellar can offer a more complex profile for those seeking greater depth.
