Description
What type of wine is it?
Cristal by Louis Roederer is a Brut Champagne made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay using the Traditional Method. It stands out for its elegant structure, lively freshness, and aromatic precision. Pinot Noir brings fruity intensity and body, while Chardonnay adds minerality and finesse. Part of the base wines is aged in wood without malolactic fermentation, and an extended maturation on the lees yields fine, persistent bubbles.
Origin
Cristal's grapes are sourced from the Montagne de Reims in Champagne, selected from 32 plots in the crus of Verzenay, Verzy, Beaumont-sur-Vesle, Ay, Avize, Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Cramant. The climate alternates between cool springs and warm summers, ensuring balanced ripening.
How is it made?
Grapes from the chosen crus are vinified separately; part of the wines matures in wood without malolactic fermentation. Secondary fermentation takes place in the bottle following the Traditional Method, with sur lattes aging. This process develops a delicate effervescence, aromatic complexity, and persistent structure thanks to the slow lees contact.
Tasting notes
Cristal shows a pale golden yellow color with greenish highlights and an extremely fine perlage. The bouquet is intense, offering white flowers, candied citrus, peach, and mirabelle plum, with saline notes and subtle smoky nuances. On the palate, it is enveloping and juicy, with the fruity concentration of Pinot Noir and the freshness of Chardonnay. Its silky texture and maritime savoriness accompany a long, mineral finish.
Food pairings
Cristal pairs wonderfully with haute cuisine dishes such as oysters, shellfish, or white meats, all of which enhance its savory character and freshness.
When to serve
Cristal is ready to enjoy now thanks to its freshness and balance. Perfect for celebrations, elegant aperitifs, and gala dinners, it is also well suited to special occasions where its evolving aromatic profile can be appreciated over time.
