Description
What kind of wine is it
Ramale by Torraccia del Piantavigna is a red wine from Piedmont made from Nebbiolo grapes. Classified as Colline Novaresi, it stands out for its dry and structured style. The long maturation period and subsequent bottle aging yield a profile with expertly handled tannins, ensuring a good potential for further development over time.
Where does it come from
This Nebbiolo originates from the Ghemme area, in Upper Piedmont. The vineyards lie on clay-rich alluvial soils and enjoy a favorable exposure, ideal conditions for a steady ripening of the grapes. These features translate into vibrant red wines, where a pronounced aromatic component blends with solid structure and excellent aging potential.
How is it produced
After gentle crushing, the Nebbiolo grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperatures. Frequent pump-overs ensure proper oxygenation of the must and the extraction of color, aromas, and tannins. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages at least three years in French oak barrels from Allier and large Slovenian oak casks, then rests for at least six months in bottle.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections, a mark of the prolonged wood aging. The nose reveals wild berry fruit and violet floral notes, combined with black pepper spice, coffee grounds, and wood. On the palate it is dry and precise, supported by polished tannins and excellent structure. Compact flavors guide the progression toward a long finish.
Food pairings
Thanks to its structure and persistent flavor, it pairs perfectly with rich pasta dishes featuring ragù. The tannic texture makes it an ideal match for braised red meats, grilled meats, cheeses, and aged cured meats. According to local tradition, it has great harmony with tajarin with ragù, classic mixed boiled meats, or a deep Nebbiolo braise.
When to serve it
Suitable for important lunches and hearty dinners, it answers the call for a dry, structured profile. Proper aeration before serving is recommended, vital for refining the dense tannic component and spicy notes. Excellent to enjoy after aging, it boasts remarkable aging potential that ensures it can be enjoyed over the coming years.
