Description
What kind of wine is it
Côte de Beaune-Villages by Labouré-Roi is a still red wine made from Pinot Noir produced in Burgundy, in the Côte de Beaune. The style focuses on balance and clarity, with a well-marked freshness and ripe tannins offering an easy-drinking experience. Vinification involves cold maceration and regular punch-downs, while maturation combines steel and barrique to deliver aromatic precision and measured structure.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from fourteen villages in the Côte de Beaune, including Meursault, Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Romain, and Santenay. The vineyards are situated between 180 and 280 metres and benefit from southeast- and south-facing exposures, useful for the balanced ripening of Pinot Noir. The soils alternate brown limestone, red stones, ferruginous oolites, marl, clay, and sand—a variety that influences the wine’s profile between tension and roundness.
How it is made
After manual harvesting, the grapes are selected and destemmed. This is followed by a five-day cold maceration at 8–10 °C, before the alcoholic fermentation, which lasts for two weeks with two daily punch-downs, thus carefully managing the extraction of color and tannin. Aging lasts 12 months: 70% in steel and 30% in barrique, a choice aimed at preserving freshness and adding a touch of structure and elegance.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows a bright garnet red color. On the nose, there are aromas of cherry and spice, with a slight woody note in line with its partial barrique aging. On the palate, it is smooth and pleasant, with a decisive opening and consistent progression. The ripe tannins offer roundness, while the freshness supports and leads to a balanced finish of fruit, spice, and subtle toasted hints.
Food pairings
On the table, it pairs with dishes where juiciness and savoriness count, thanks to its smooth taste and well-matured tannic texture. It goes well with eggs in meurette sauce, grilled lamb chops, spicy sausage, pizza, and creamy cheeses, where fruit and spices complement tasty dishes and richer textures without losing balance.
When to serve it
It is ideal when you want an elegant and well-balanced red, ready to drink after maturing in steel and barrique. It works well for lunches and dinners with not too heavy meats, delicately spiced dishes, and creamy cheeses, highlighting the Pinot Noir character between fruit, spice, and a measured woody note. Its freshness and ripe tannins make it enjoyable for convivial occasions and with meals.
