Description
What kind of wine it is
Côte-Rôtie La Mouline by E. Guigal is a red wine produced in the Rhône Valley from a blend of Syrah and Viognier. It ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with classic pump-overs and about four weeks of maceration. It then ages for forty months in new barrels, which help define a soft, intense profile with a distinctively silky texture.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the La Mouline cru, located in the heart of the Côte Blonde within the Côte-Rôtie appellation. The terraced vineyards are arranged in a Roman amphitheater shape on steep slopes that promote sun exposure and optimal ripening of the grapes. The soil is characterized by gneiss with light siliceous components and by calcareous loess, a peculiar composition that offers aromatic finesse and great depth to the glass.
How it is produced
Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks to ensure precise control of temperatures during alcoholic fermentation. The maceration period lasts four weeks, during which targeted pump-overs are performed to carefully extract color and aromatic components from the skins. Afterwards, the wine rests for forty months in new barrels, a long maturation that allows the structure to integrate and gives concentration to the final sip.
Tasting notes
On the eye, it presents a ruby red robe illuminated by vivid vermilion reflections. The bouquet unleashes scents of small red berries and blackberries, accompanied by delicate violet notes that impart a powerful yet defined intensity. On the palate, it opens soft and reveals a well-balanced harmony between the precision of the aromas and the explosive concentration of fruit. The taste development is enveloping, supported by a velvety and voluptuous texture.
Food pairings
At the table, this structured red finds its best match with dishes based on small game. It ideally accompanies traditional preparations based on woodcock thanks to its soft entry and remarkable concentration. The aromatic complexity and luscious texture allow it to perfectly balance the intense and wild flavors of meats, enhancing every bite.
When to serve it
It is ideal for refined dinners where you want to enjoy a red with great aromatic intensity and a marked silky texture. It represents a suitable choice for formal occasions or focused tasting moments, where it can best express the legacy of centuries of hillside winemaking. Served at the correct temperature, it fully reveals its harmony and is an excellent companion to enrich structured menus with bold flavors.
