Description
What kind of wine is it?
Côte-Rôtie “La Turque” by E. Guigal is a red wine from the Northern Rhône Valley, made from Syrah with a small percentage of Viognier. It originates on the Côte Brune with nuances of the Côte Blonde and stands out for its spicy profile and defined tannic structure, offering both power and elegance tied to the terroir.
Where does it come from?
The grapes come from 25-year-old vines located in Côte-Rôtie, in the area of Côte Brune with influences from plots linked to the Côte Blonde. The soils are silica-limestone with the presence of mica schist, a context that helps give tension and depth to the wine in the glass.
How is it made?
Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with an automatic punching-down system, followed by alcoholic fermentation and maceration lasting about four weeks. Ageing then continues for 40 months in new barriques, a decisive step to integrate the wood and support the spicy imprint and structure of the wine.
Tasting notes
In appearance, it shows a ruby red color with dark highlights. The nose is intense and composed, with small red berries, Morello cherry, and blackberries, accompanied by spicy notes. On the palate the entry is quite soft and the tasting maintains harmony between concentration and finesse of the tannins, with a profile that clearly echoes the terroir.
Food pairing
Thanks to its structure and intensity, it pairs naturally with small game and elaborate dishes. It is recommended with exceptional fare such as hare à la royale, where the spicy element and tannic texture are balanced by the richness of the dish.
When to serve it
It’s a red wine suited for important dinners and occasions where a wine of character is required, able to support complex courses. With some aeration before serving, the fruit and spice notes emerge more clearly, highlighting the balance between concentration and finesse.
