Description
What kind of wine it is
Isonzo del Friuli Cabernet Franc Borgo Conventi is a red wine made from Cabernet Franc grapes grown in the Isonzo area of Friuli. Vinification takes place in stainless steel with skin maceration at controlled temperature, followed by further aging in steel until the following spring. The result is a style that offers good structure but remains smooth, with a recognizable varietal profile and velvety texture on the palate.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the flat area of Isonzo del Friuli, where the vineyards grow on clay soils rich in stones. The microclimate features mild winters and hot summers, with cold winds blocked by the Alps. This environment allows for regular ripening and a balance between the fruity character and the vegetal imprint.
How it is produced
Fermentation is conducted in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures between 26 and 28 °C, with about 8–10 days maceration on the skins. After fermentation, the wine continues aging exclusively in steel until the following spring. The choice to avoid wood maintains the varietal’s clear character and a clean aromatic profile.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby red color, tending towards garnet as it ages. On the nose, it is varietal, with well-integrated vegetal notes and touches of wild berries and blackberry. On the palate, it has good structure and a suave, velvety profile, with a herbal note accompanying each sip; the finish is long and recalls small fruits.
Food pairings
At the table, it pairs easily with mixed roasts and duck, supporting oven-cooked meat dishes thanks to its structure and herbal component. It also goes well with richer preparations such as baked pasta and au gratin vegetables, while with semi-mature cheeses it achieves a good balance between intensity and softness.
When to serve
This is the right choice when you want a red wine of good structure and a clearly varietal profile, ideal both for convivial lunches and for dinners with oven-baked dishes. After aging until the following spring, it offers a balanced interplay between fruit and vegetal notes, and as it ages, the color evolves towards garnet. Served in a red wine glass, it enhances softness and aromatic persistence.
