Description

The Nebbiolo d'Alba Marne Brune is a red wine produced by Fontanafredda, originating from the Biancardi vineyards located at the end of the Langhe region, on the border with Roero. The name refers to the “brown marls,” marly-sandy soils rich in mineral salts, limestone, and coarse sand, which give the wine great personality and balance.

The grapes are vinified by alternating layers of destemmed must and whole clusters, with fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature for 12-15 days and a further post-fermentation maceration of 4-5 days. The wine ages in large Slavonian oak barrels for 6-10 months, while a small portion rests in terracotta amphorae to enhance the mineral component, followed by at least two months of bottle aging.

It presents with youthful yet complex aromas dominated by red fruits with spicy hints. As it develops, it assumes garnet hues and floral scents of wilted roses and geraniums. On the palate, it is smooth, deep, and spicy, with silky tannins and a persistent finish that highlights the balance derived from its terroir.

It pairs beautifully with meat dishes such as Piedmontese boiled meats and empanadas, structured first courses like lasagna Bolognese, cured meats and medium-aged cheeses, and is perfect with Alba truffles.
