Description
What kind of wine it is
Gran Reserva 890 La Rioja Alta is a red wine from Rioja made from Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo. It represents an elegant Rioja style, with a structure and complexity that offer longevity. Vinification takes place in tanks and the long aging in oak defines a precise, balanced and persistent profile.
Where it comes from
This wine comes from selected grapes in the municipalities of Briñas, Labastida, Villalba and Fuenmayor, areas historically prized for the quality of their grapes. The origin from different vineyards allows for a careful blend of native varieties, with a focus on balance and capacity for evolution.
How it is produced
The harvest is carried out manually in crates, with refrigerated transport to the winery to preserve the integrity of the fruit. After gentle destemming and crushing, the must ferments in tanks and undergoes natural malolactic fermentation. The aging continues for six years in oak barrels with numerous traditional rackings, then the wine completes maturation in the bottle without filtration.
Tasting notes
It shows a medium intensity garnet red with iodine-like nuances. On the nose, it is broad and complex, with cherry and black plum jam, followed by tobacco leaf, cinnamon and vanilla, then pepper and cocoa powder. On the palate, fine tannins and balanced freshness accompany a long and persistent progression.
Food pairings
It naturally pairs with meat stews with aromatic herbs, enhancing slow-cooked dishes and measured sauces. It also goes well with delicate dishes with light sauces, thanks to the balance between freshness and tannic texture. To finish, it can complement chocolate-based desserts, echoing its spiced and toasted notes.
When to serve
This is a red wine suited for moments when you want a mature profile defined by extended oak aging. The choice to bottle without filtration and to use traditional rackings preserves its aromatic expression and supports a good potential for aging. It can be enjoyed today for its balance of freshness and tannins, or after further cellaring for greater integration.
