Description

What kind of wine it is

The Rioja Gran Reserva by Leza García represents the classic expression of Rioja Alta and is made predominantly from Tempranillo grapes. This red stands out for its style that combines freshness and elegance, while maintaining a full body and remarkable evolved complexity. Thanks to its long maturation and the origin from selected plots, the wine offers a lasting balance over time and results broad and round on the palate.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the prestigious Rioja Alta subzone in vineyards located in the Leza area. The rows reach an altitude between 500 and 700 metres, a condition that influences the ripening pace to favour a fresh and well-defined expression. This high-altitude origin helps shape an elegant profile in which the fruity component harmoniously blends with a structure suitable for long ageing.

How it is produced

Harvesting takes place in the second half of October and involves the careful selection of the best bunches from the dedicated plots. After vinification, the wine ages for a minimum of 24 months in American and French oak barrels, an essential stage to define its spiciness and structure. The process concludes with a further refinement in bottle for 36 months, a period which allows the integration of aromas and the rounding out of the flavour profile to ensure complexity.

Tasting notes

It displays a medium intense ruby red colour, enriched by brick tones typical of wood ageing. The olfactory profile is intense and complex, featuring a background of black fruit intertwined with clear notes of tobacco and spices. On the palate, it reveals excellent structure and is broad and round with a long finish echoing the spicy sensations perceived on the nose.

Food pairings

Its substantial structure and lingering finish make it ideal for pairing with red meats, stews, and roasts. It also naturally matches cold cuts and cheeses of every kind, where its broad taste balances saltiness and richness. Its aromatic complexity enhances rich dishes and slow-cooked recipes and reflects the gastronomic tradition that favours wines with great body.

When to serve

This red is the perfect choice when seeking a traditional expression of Rioja Alta, suitable for important tables and convivial occasions. The long maturation in oak and glass gives the wine the ability to withstand further evolution while preserving its freshness. It is recommended to serve it with structured cuisine to appreciate the fullness and elegance it has gained over time.
