Description

What kind of wine is it

Rosso di Montalcino by Argiano is a red wine made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes grown in the Montalcino area. It is recognized for its fresh, easy-drinking style, with elegant structure and soft tannins. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, then the wine is aged in French and Slavonian oak barrels. This process imparts depth and harmony, resulting in a balanced Sangiovese that clearly reflects its place of origin.

Where does it come from

The grapes come from vineyards between 12 and 22 years old, located at 280-310 meters above sea level, on soils composed of young alluvial clays and limestone marl. These elements give the wine freshness and a pronounced minerality. Montalcino is renowned for elegant wines, thanks also to its long-standing agricultural expertise.

How is it made

Manual harvesting of the Sangiovese begins in September. This is followed by a pre-fermentation maceration at low temperature to preserve aromas and color. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel with skin contact for about ten days, thus extracting a balanced amount of tannins and structure. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for a few months in French and Slavonian oak barrels, without invasive winemaking practices, to maintain the typicity of Sangiovese and the authentic expression of its terroir.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it displays a bright ruby red with cherry reflections. The nose offers notes of fresh cherry, ripe plum, and slight mineral nuances. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, balancing freshness and structure, with a smooth sip supported by well-integrated tannins that lend tension and persistence. The finish recalls red fruits and light spices, inviting another taste.

Food pairings

Rosso di Montalcino by Argiano pairs well with pasta with meat ragù, game, and grilled red meats. Aged cheeses such as Tuscan pecorino also complement the wine’s flavor profile.

When to serve it

The wine is already enjoyable in the first years after bottling and develops greater complexity if consumed within a few years. Ideal for social occasions and formal dinners, it is also well-suited for relaxed tastings, enhancing meat dishes and traditional Tuscan recipes.
