Description
What kind of wine is it
Rosso di Montalcino by Quercecchio is made from Sangiovese grapes and offers a fresh, medium-bodied profile with dense, vigorous yet balanced tannins. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature, followed by twelve months of ageing in oak barrels. This process enhances the wine’s versatility, making it suitable for many occasions.
Where does it come from
The grapes come from the southern area of Montalcino. The region’s long winegrowing tradition upholds the quality and identity of Rosso di Montalcino.
How is it made
The Sangiovese grapes are hand-harvested with careful bunch selection. After destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with frequent pump-overs to encourage extraction. The wine matures for twelve months in oak barrels, followed by further ageing in bottle to complete its development.
Tasting notes
The colour is ruby red with garnet highlights. On the nose, notes of cherry, raspberry, woodland, violet and spices emerge. The palate is fresh, with dense, velvety tannins and a savouriness that supports a medium body. The finish is persistent, with lingering fruit and spicy hints.
Food pairings
This Rosso di Montalcino pairs well with Tuscan dishes such as pici all’aglione, pappardelle with wild boar and pasta with meat ragù. It also balances well with truffle-based dishes and grilled red meats. It is a good match for international cuisine too, including beef stews, savoury roasts and medium-aged cheeses.
When to serve it
Ideal for autumn and winter lunches and dinners, it suits both formal and relaxed occasions.
