Saint-Estèphe AOC 2018 Château Phélan-Ségur

The Gardinier family has managed Château Phélan-Ségur since the 1980s, making significant improvements to winemaking practices (under the advice of Michel Rolland) and purchasing new hectares of vineyards. In 2017 the château was sold to the Belgian investor Philippe Van de Vyvere.

The alcoholic fermentation of the grapes takes place in steel vats from 40 to 220 hl, while the malolactic fermentation takes place mainly in French oak barrels (50% new wood). For aging, French oak barrels are used (with 50% new wood), in which the wine rests between 16 and 18 months before being bottled.

Intense purple red in color, the wine opens on the nose with aromas of rose and cherry jam, raspberry and black currant, in addition to spicy notes. In the mouth the tannins are dense and silky, with a good freshness and a long warm final note.

Ideal in combination with lasagna with wild boar ragout and baked duck breast with a side of spring onions and potatoes. It is advisable to let the wine settle for at least 3 hours before serving it.
