Description

The name of the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, located on the left bank of Bodeaux, is partly composed of the surname of the Ducru family who bought it at the end of the 18th century, partly refers to the ground on which it stands, sprinkled with "beautiful stones" ( Beaucaillou). Dating from the 13th century, it is also one of Bordeaux's oldest château, although it owes its present appearance to the famous Parisian architect Paul Abadie, who was commissioned to build it in the late 1700s. Today's Château Ducru-Beaucaillou belongs to the Borie family , which since the mid-twentieth century has substantially raised the quality of the wines, to the point of bringing them close to 100/100 of the best international critics.

The vinification is parcel and takes place in steel vats, with a maceration on the skins for about 7 days. The malolactic fermentation, on the other hand, takes place in concrete vats, followed by aging for 18-20 months in new French barriques for 75% -90%, depending on the vintage.

In the glass the wine appears of an intense ruby red with purple hues. On the nose the aromatic bouquet is made up of aromas of violet and red rose, plum and compote of blueberries, spices and chocolate, with mineral hints of graphite. The sip is full-bodied, well balanced with a marked freshness and a long, satisfying finish.

The Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou Saint-Julien 2ème Cru Classé ideally accompanies a terrine of pigeon with truffle or a veal stew with red wine and aromatic herbs.
