Description

What kind of wine it is

The red wine from Château Beychevelle is a representative expression of the Saint-Julien appellation, located in the renowned Bordeaux district. This wine is born from careful work in the vineyard, where the vines are divided into numerous parcels, each tended individually. The production process follows the Bordeaux-style vinification, respecting the identity of each individual plot. After fermentation in steel and a partially wooden malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for eighteen months in French oak barriques, half of which are new. The result is a concentrated and harmonious profile that accurately reflects the origin's terroir and the technical vision of the estate.

Where it comes from

The origins of this red wine are rooted in the Saint-Julien appellation, an area renowned for its ideal soils within the Bordeaux region. The estate of Château Beychevelle is historically known as the Versailles of Bordeaux, thanks to its classical architecture and the extensive gardens surrounding the property. Founded in the 15th century, the estate has witnessed many historical events and today is owned by Japanese and French companies. The vineyards are fragmented into more than sixty different plots, a characteristic that allows for grapes with unique nuances, ideal for the creation of a blend that represents the entire area.

How it is produced

Production follows rigorous parcel-based methods, isolating grapes from different vineyards in fifty-nine separate steel vats. This targeted management allows the specific characteristics of each soil portion to shine. After primary fermentation, malolactic fermentation takes place partially in these same containers and partly in wooden casks, promoting optimal integration of the structural components. Aging continues in barriques for about eighteen months, with fifty percent new oak contributing to roundness and maintaining a style focused on precision before bottling.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it reveals an intense ruby red color, dense and particularly bright. The aromatic profile opens with well-defined fruity aromas, with evident notes of cherry, raspberry, and blueberry at full ripeness. The bouquet is completed by subtle and measured herbaceous hints, accompanied by elegant balsamic nuances reminiscent of lavender and star anise. The palate shows a soft entry, leading to a harmonious sip that echoes the sensations perceived on the nose. The long and persistent finish underlines the overall balance of the structure and leaves a pleasantly lingering taste.

Food pairings

At the table, this red wine effectively enhances a variety of meat-based dishes and shows great structural solidity. It pairs exceptionally well with roasted, grilled, or stewed recipes, integrating seamlessly with both red and white meats. It is particularly suitable for supporting the intense flavor of game and noble poultry. For a classic pairing, it goes perfectly with a traditional entrecôte or a flavorful roast lamb, balancing sauces and cooking juices with its aromatic persistence that easily supports every bite.

When to serve it

This Saint-Julien is the perfect choice to accompany important social occasions, especially during lunches or dinners where meat is the star of the menu. Its structured nature requires attention when serving and offers its best alongside roasts and slow-cooked dishes. Thanks to careful barrel aging, it has the ability to evolve positively, ensuring a pleasant tasting experience even after a period of bottle aging. Served at the correct temperature, it delivers an intense tasting experience that clearly conveys the estate's winemaking philosophy.
