Description
What kind of wine is it
Saint-Romain Blanc by Ropiteau Frères is a white wine from Burgundy, specifically the Côte de Beaune, made from Chardonnay grapes. The profile remains elegant with a distinct mineral character, offering structure from fermentation and maturation in oak and a lengthy lees aging that enhances its balance.
Where does it come from
This wine comes from Saint-Romain, in the Côte de Beaune, a region of Burgundy where vines were already cultivated in Celtic and Gallo-Roman times. The vineyards are located between 280 and 400 meters on gentle south and south-east facing slopes; soils of marl, limestone, and clay encourage finesse and a clear mineral imprint.
How is it produced
The grapes are harvested by hand and selected upon arrival at the winery, then gently pressed using a pneumatic press to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, and maturation continues in the same wood, with a portion of new barrels; this is followed by several months of lees aging with regular bâtonnage and a final transition to steel before bottling.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it appears straw yellow with golden highlights. The nose presents delicate citrus aromas with light toasted notes. On the palate it is refined and focused, with pronounced minerality and well-defined flavors; oak and lees aging provide structure and balance, maintaining a taut and clean profile.
Food pairings
At the table, it pairs well with white meats and poultry in delicate sauces, where finesse and structure are echoed. It also works well with veal and cheeses like Brillat-Savarin and Cîteaux, particularly in creamy and restrained preparations that allow the minerality and subtle toasted nuances to shine.
When to serve
It’s perfect for dining occasions where balance and precision are essential, from the starter to the main course. It shows its best with refined white meat dishes or soft cheeses, letting its minerality and structure come to the fore. Maturation in oak followed by time in steel defines a tidy and complete style, designed to offer an already well-integrated drinking experience.
