Description

What kind of wine it is

The Stellenbosch Pinot Noir by Meerlust is a red wine made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes grown in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in Allier oak barrels, both new and second passage. This process enhances a fresh and elegant style, with fine tannic texture, a balance between fruit and spice, and a mineral finish. The winemaking choices highlight the origin and the wine’s tasting profile.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from vineyards located in Stellenbosch, one of the most renowned areas of the Western Cape. The local conditions and careful cultivation make it possible to obtain a Pinot Noir with a precise and linear profile, an authentic expression of the area of origin.

How it is produced

The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, with careful selection of bunches at optimal ripeness. After destemming and crushing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The 12-month aging process occurs in Allier oak barrels, both new and second passage, to integrate spicy notes and structure while maintaining the fruity component.

Tasting notes

It appears a bright red with violet highlights. The nose reveals aromas of red fruit, sweet spices and light nuances of moss and undergrowth, in harmony with oak aging and the character of the terroir. On the palate, it is fresh with crisp acidity, soft tannins and a medium-bodied structure that emphasizes elegance and progression. The finish is clean, with lingering spicy overtones and a mineral note that extends the persistence.

Food pairings

It pairs well with grilled meats and roasts, where the freshness supports succulence and the tannins remain discreet. Excellent also with aged cheeses and cold cuts, or with mushroom dishes such as a porcini mushroom risotto. The fine texture allows pairings with flavorful fish, and, in a local twist, accompanies a South African braai or a mildly spiced bobotie. Also suitable with roasted poultry and dishes enhanced with aromatic herbs.

When to serve it

Ideal for informal dinners or everyday meals when you’re looking for a red focused on freshness and definition more than power. It’s best served at 15–17 °C in a medium-sized glass. A brief decanting helps to enhance the fruit and integrate the oak notes. Delightful when young, but thanks to its acidity and oak aging it can positively evolve in the bottle. Under optimal storage conditions, it retains a balance between fruit aromas, spice and tertiary nuances for several years.
