Description

What type of wine it is

Purple Angel by Montes is a red wine produced in the Colchagua Valley, Chile, made from a blend of Carménère and Petit Verdot. In the glass, it shows ripe fruit and sweet spices, supported by a finely balanced structure. The winemaking process includes a cold maceration phase and fermentation at a controlled temperature, followed by aging in French oak barrels. Its style combines a clear aromatic intensity with a long and consistent finish.

Where it comes from

The grapes for this wine come from the Colchagua Valley, a prominent wine-producing area in Chile. This region influences the wine’s profile and encourages the full ripeness of the fruit and a precise aromatic definition. Montes, founded in 1987, stands out as a winery able to showcase the typical Chilean winemaking identity through its labels.

How it is produced

The harvest of Carménère and Petit Verdot grapes takes place between late April and early May. Once in the cellar, the must undergoes a cold maceration at ten degrees for several days, followed by about two weeks of alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature. At the end of this process, the skins are separated from the wine. The next phase involves an eighteen-month period in French oak barrels, partly new and partly used, to ensure a perfect integration of flavors with delicate toasted notes.

Tasting notes

In the glass, the wine shows a clear ruby red color. The bouquet reveals intense aromas of ripe red and black fruits, alongside hints of dried plum, toasted notes, and enveloping sweet spices. On the palate, it is finely balanced, with steady flavor development. The finish enhances the same fruity and spicy sensations found on the nose, with a long and consistent finale enriched by nuances from the extended oak aging.

Pairings

This red wine calls for dishes with strong flavors to find the right balance at the table. It is particularly recommended with roast beef, which pairs well with the aromatic intensity of the glass. It also goes ideally with rosemary lamb, where the herbs in the dish perfectly complement the ripe fruit and sweet spices of the wine. Finally, it matches excellently with braised wild boar, thanks to its long finish and excellent overall progression.

When to serve it

The richness of this wine makes it the perfect partner for convivial moments at the table, especially during meals featuring meat. It is a suitable choice when you want to serve a harmonious and balanced wine, able to accompany dishes without ever losing its definition. It is ideal for those who appreciate aromatic profiles dominated by sweet spices and toasted notes, guaranteeing a long and gratifying tasting experience from start to finish.
