Description
What type of wine is it
The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva by Canneto is a dry red wine, made predominantly from Sangiovese grapes with a small addition of Merlot and Cabernet. It offers a balanced palate, with fine, delicate tannins and an aromatic profile rich in ripe fruit and spices.
Where it comes from
It originates on the western hills of Montepulciano, near the church of San Biagio, in Tuscany. The Canneto estate was purchased in 1987 by a group of friends from Zurich, admirers of Montepulciano wines, who over the years built a new winery and installed new equipment. Of the 30 hectares under vine, 16 are dedicated to the production of Vino Nobile.
How it's made
The grapes are harvested and selected by hand from late September to mid-October. After a gentle crushing and destemming, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel with selected yeasts. The wine ages for 6 months in Slavonian oak barrels, then in stainless-steel vats, and completes its maturation with another 6 months in bottle.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a ruby red color with garnet hues. The nose opens with aromas of redcurrant and ripe cherry, enriched by notes of licorice, tobacco and spices. On the palate it is balanced, with fine tannins that are delicate.
Food pairings
Pairs well with red meats, grilled or braised, with stews and game. It is also an excellent match for aged cheeses.
When to serve it
A red for a special meal, ideal for dinners centered on meat and aged cheeses. Its structure and fine tannins also make it suitable for a few years of cellaring.
