Description
What kind of wine is it?
Volnay by Louis Jadot is made from Pinot Noir in the Côte de Beaune and is known for its elegant style with a balanced structure. Fermentation takes place in open wooden vats with daily pump-overs, and aging continues for eighteen months in oak barrels. This process highlights the fruit's delicacy and the minerality of the terroir, offering a fresh and refined profile.
Where does it come from?
It comes from the village of Volnay, between Pommard and Meursault, on soils of limestone marl and clay, which support a clear aromatic finesse. The continental climate with mild summers and cold winters leads to a slow ripening of the grapes and enhances the complexity of the profile, with a local tradition of producing precise red wines.
How is it made?
Harvesting of the Pinot Noir grapes is done by hand, selecting them in small crates. After destemming, fermentation takes place in wooden and stainless steel vats with daily pump-overs to extract color and soft tannins. Maceration lasts about three weeks at a controlled temperature. Maturation continues for eighteen months in oak barrels.
Tasting notes
Bright ruby red color with purple highlights. The nose opens with aromas of cherry and raspberry, floral notes of dried rose and subtle hints of sweet spices and tobacco. On the palate, it offers a harmonious structure, silky tannins and well-integrated acidity, with a long, mineral finish and a return of small red fruits and forest undergrowth notes.
Pairings
Pairs well with beef carpaccio, pizza, grilled meats, lasagna, ratatouille, and aged cheeses.
When to serve
Volnay by Louis Jadot is enjoyable when young and reaches greater potential after a few years of bottle aging, potentially evolving further in the cellar over the medium term.
