Description
The Pinot Noir Gravel Road from Roco is an exceptional wine produced in the Willamette Valley, Oregon, from vineyards located between 75 and 250 meters in altitude on primarily sedimentary soils. This wine is the result of the passion and decades of experience of Rollin and Corby Soles, founders of the company. It is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, hand-picked from various selected vineyards, including crus such as Wits'End in the Chehalem Mountains appellation.
Winemaking begins with a gentle destemming of whole berries, which are allowed to fall by gravity into small open fermenters. After a cold maceration of about ten days to encourage slow extraction, fermentation follows with indigenous yeasts and regular punching down. The wine then undergoes a post-fermentation maceration before aging for at least 18 months in French oak barrels of first, second, and third passage.
The bouquet is intense and refined, with aromas of cranberries, pomegranate, and oriental spices mingling with aromatic herbs. On the palate, it offers elegant notes of red cherry, blueberries, and pastry, with well-integrated tannins and a persistent finish enriched by spices and black forest fruits.
Ideal with rich dishes such as roast pork with garlic and sage or courses based on mushrooms and wild herbs.
