Château La Louvière
Château La Louvière is one of the historic estates of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, about twenty minutes from Bordeaux. Its origins go back a very long way: as early as 1310 “La Lobeyra” was home to the first rows of vines, and in the sixteenth century Pierre de Guilloche and his son Jean developed the modern vineyard.
After the Revolution the estate was purchased by Jean-Baptiste Mareilhac, who had the elegant neoclassical château built, now listed as a Historic Monument. In 1965 André Lurton acquired La Louvière, gradually restoring it to its former prestige; in 2009 a new semi-underground cellar capable of housing around a thousand barriques was inaugurated.
The vineyard comprises 58 hectares planted to red varieties, Merlot (55%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (45%) on deep gravel, and 11 hectares planted to white varieties, Sauvignon (96%) and Sémillon (4%), on sandy, gravelly, clay and limestone soils.
The range includes Château La Louvière red and white, the second wine L de La Louvière and Les Lions de La Louvière. History, architecture and the great wines of Pessac-Léognan make Château La Louvière a timeless heritage.
