Château Malartic-Lagraviere
Château Malartic-Lagravière is a historic estate in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, south of Bordeaux. In the eighteenth century the domaine, then called Domaine de La Gravière, was purchased by the Count of Malartic, and in 1850 it took its current name. Since 1997 it has belonged to the Bonnie family, today represented by Jean-Jacques and Véronique Bonnie.
The vineyard extends over 73 hectares on Günzian gravels and Quaternary clays, set over fossil-rich limestone. For the reds, the blend includes Merlot (55%), Cabernet Sauvignon (42%), Petit Verdot (2%) and Cabernet Franc (1%); for the whites, Sauvignon Blanc (79%) and Sémillon (21%).
The reds age for 20 months and the whites for 12–14 months in barriques, with a share of new oak between 40% and 65%. Production, about 150,000 bottles, includes Château Malartic-Lagravière red and white and the second wine Le Comte de Malartic.
A member of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, Château Malartic-Lagravière is a benchmark for the great reds and whites of Pessac-Léognan.
