Charles Smith
The story of Charles Smith is one that could inspire the plot of a film. Born a few hours from Napa Valley, one of California's iconic wine areas, he became passionate about this drink only after moving to Denmark for love. Here he was manager of several rock bands, including the Danish duo The Raveonettes; his job allowed him to attend parties, eat good food and drink good wine. The decisive step was the journey he undertook in 1999 for Walla Walla, a "sub-area" of the Columbia Valley, where he met a wine producer who convinced him to make a wine that reflected his personality, his history, his vision.
He began to produce self-taught wine in 2001 and already 8 years later he was named "Best winemaker of the year" by the Food & Wine magazine, and in 2014 also by the prestigious international magazine Wine Enthusiast. His style aims at the production of wines rich in substance, the result of long macerations, in the case of reds, and with a modern taste. The artistic labels with a very American design, the work of the artist Rikke Korff who also worked for some lines of Levi's, want to convey the rock soul of Charles and the character of each wine.
