Petit Verdot
Petit verdot is a red grape variety historically present in the south-western area of France, in particular in the Médoc, where it is used in small percentages in Bordeaux blends together with cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot. It is a late variety, which in the cool climate of Bordeaux struggles to reach full ripeness. However, its contribution to Bordeaux red wines is particularly appreciated for the spicy notes, for the structure and tannic texture, which give longevity to the wines.
In Italy it is grown in the Bolgheri area, in the Tuscan Maremma, in Lazio and in Sicily. Territories in which thanks to the mild and sunny climate it is able to ripen perfectly giving intense, rich reds with great personality.
