Italian mountain wines are wine treasures produced at high altitudes, where the climate and soil lend unique characteristics. In the Aosta Valley , wines such as Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle, a dry, mineral white, reflect the region’s Alpine character, with fresh, floral aromas.

Trentino-Alto Adige is another mountainous region famous for its wines. It produces excellent whites such as Gewürztraminer, known for its intense aromas of spices and tropical fruit. Reds, such as Lagrein, are also appreciated for their structure and depth, with notes of berries and spices.

In Lombardy, Valtellina offers distinctive red wines such as Valtellina Superiore and Sforzato, both made from Nebbiolo, locally called Chiavennasca. These wines are known for their elegance and complexity, with aromas of cherry, spices and a pleasant mineral note due to the rocky soils.

Mountainous Piedmont produces the famous Nebbiolo delle Alpi, particularly in the Alto Piemonte area. Wines such as Gattinara and Boca are known for their longevity and depth, with robust tannins and aromas of red fruits, roses and licorice.
