Description

What kind of wine it is

The Amarone della Valpolicella by Villa da Filicaja is a distinguished red wine from Veneto, crafted from a meticulous blend of Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Croatina grapes. This structured red undergoes a traditional drying period, essential for obtaining the typical concentration and complexity of the Veronese region. On the palate, it offers a full and balanced style, marked by a firm tannic structure that ensures impressive longevity over time.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from highly prized vineyards located in the municipalities of San Pietro in Cariano and Negrar, in the heart of the province of Verona. These hilly lands favor optimal ripening of the grapes, with locations providing ideal conditions to develop the wine’s intense aromatic bouquet. The soils of this specific area impart the Amarone della Valpolicella with a robust structure and clear tannic definition, faithfully reflecting the unique pedoclimatic characteristics of its place of origin.

How it is produced

After manual harvesting, the grapes rest in dedicated rooms for drying, where sugars and aromatic substances become more concentrated. Vinification involves a fifty-day fermentation in stainless steel, accompanied by a thirty-day skin maceration to extract color and phenolic compounds. The wine is then aged for thirty months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a further three-month rest in bottle before being released to the market.

Tasting notes

In the glass, the wine displays an intense ruby red hue with garnet reflections. The aromatic profile is broad, revealing pronounced aromas of ripe red fruits that intertwine harmoniously with elegant spicy accents. On the palate, the wine shows remarkable depth, where the solid gustatory balance meets a dense tannic texture, guaranteeing a long, coherent, and persistent finish between fruity and spicy sensations.

Food pairings

This robust and complex red is the ideal partner for enhancing braised meats and game, perfectly balancing rich and flavorful meat dishes. Its aromatic persistence and firm tannic structure also make it particularly suitable for serving with platters of aged cheeses. In Veneto cuisine, it successfully accompanies slow-cooked meats, supporting every bite with its deep aromatic intensity.

When to serve it

This wine can be fully appreciated during important occasions or relaxed dinners, where its evolution in the glass can be carefully savored. To fully express its bouquet, it is advisable to let the wine breathe before serving. Thanks to the solid body structure and prolonged aging, it boasts excellent aging potential, making it suitable both for immediate enjoyment and for extended cellaring.
