Description
What kind of wine is it
The Amarone della Valpolicella from Tenuta Casaletti is a red wine made from dried Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella grapes. It shows a deep ruby-red colour and a full, velvety and harmonious profile, with notes of stewed red fruits. It is a rich, structured Veronese red, born of a long grape-drying process.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Val d'Illasi, in the area of Verona, in Veneto, on tuffaceous and alluvial soils. Harvest starts in mid-September, with selection and hand-picking into crates: the best bunches are then taken to the drying loft for the long drying.
How it is made
After the long grape-drying in the drying loft, the grapes undergo crushing and destemming. Temperature-controlled fermentation and a long maceration extract colour, structure and aromas. Maturation takes place in oak casks and continues with bottle ageing.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a deep ruby-red colour. The bouquet is spicy, with notes of stewed red fruits. On the palate it is full, velvety and harmonious, with a rich structure that carries the sip through to the finish.
Food pairings
It pairs well with grilled meats, hearty roasts, game and aged cheeses. Its full body and velvety feel complement rich, flavourful dishes.
When to serve it
This is a red for special occasions and for sit-down dinners with structured dishes. A large-bowled glass and good aeration after opening enhance its spicy aromas.
