Description
What kind of wine is it
Barbera d'Alba Vigna dei Romani by Enzo Boglietti is a red wine made exclusively from Barbera grapes. It shows a lively, rich and generous profile, with velvety acidity and an ample structure. This is a characterful Barbera, expressing dark fruit, chocolate and spice.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Romani vineyard in La Morra, in the Langhe, in Piedmont. The vineyard sits at 400 meters elevation with an east/southeast exposure, on medium-textured soils, tending alkaline and rich in clay.
How it’s made
Fermentation lasts three weeks at controlled temperature, with daily pump-overs and punch-downs that favor a balanced extraction of color and aromas from the Barbera. This is followed by 22 months of maturation in French oak, which enriches the wine with spicy nuances and accompanies its evolution.
Tasting notes
The bouquet is lively, with shades of dark fruit: blackberry, plum and smoked damson, lifted by chocolate and a hint of cream. On the palate it is rich and generous, with delicate spices, velvety acidity and an ample structure. It is chocolatey and savory, with nuances of spice and pepper, finishing with slightly grainy tannins and touches of graphite. A dense wine, still coming together, that will hit its stride in 4-5 years.
What to pair it with
Barbera Vigna dei Romani pairs well with Piedmontese cuisine: braised meats, red meats, lamb, game and aged cheeses. Its ample structure and freshness support savory, slow-cooked dishes.
When to serve it
A red for convivial dinners and occasions calling for a structured Barbera, with ageing potential up to 10-15 years. A large-bowled glass and a bit of air after opening enhance its aromas.
