Description

What kind of wine is it

Il Bruciato by Antinori is a Tuscan Bolgheri Rosso with a deep ruby red color, obtained from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It has a modern, balanced and enveloping style, with an easy-drinking appeal that sets it apart.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from Tenuta Guado al Tasso of Antinori, in Bolgheri, on the coast of the Alta Maremma, about a hundred kilometers southwest of Florence. The vineyards occupy a plain surrounded by hills, known as the Bolgheri amphitheatre, where sea breezes temper the summer heat and keep sunshine levels high. The wine was created in 2002 to tell the story of the Bolgheri terroir in a modern key and comes from a dedicated selection of vineyards.

How it is made

The selected grapes are destemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation and maceration take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for about 15–20 days, with part of the Merlot and Syrah vinified at lower temperatures to preserve the varietal aromas. Malolactic fermentation takes place partly in barriques and partly in steel. The Cabernet Sauvignon is then blended with the other varieties and the wine rests again in barriques for at least six months before bottling.

Tasting notes

On the eye it shows a deep ruby red. The nose is dominated by small red fruits such as raspberry and cherry, joined by vanilla, tobacco and a hint of spun sugar. On the palate it is balanced and enveloping, with pleasant freshness, good length and a delightful fruity aftertaste.

Food pairings

It pairs well with grilled red meats, such as tagliata or ribeye, and with roasts of pork and veal. It matches nicely with feathered game, first courses with meat ragù and medium-aged cheeses. It also works with Tuscan cuisine, such as liver crostini and pasta al ragù.

When to serve it

It’s a red suitable for convivial dinners and meat-based meals, but its pleasant drinkability also makes it versatile for less formal occasions. A large-bowled glass enhances its red-fruit aromas and spicy notes. It can already be enjoyed young, with a structure that also allows good evolution in the bottle.
