Description

What kind of wine it is

Il Seggio is a Bolgheri red produced by Poggio al Tesoro. This wine is crafted from a carefully selected blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. A 15-month aging in partially new French oak barriques creates a balanced and robust structure. The result is a precise and clean sip, marked by clear fruity and spicy notes, making it the perfect match for rich dishes and slow-cooked recipes.

Where it comes from

This red originates from the estate-owned vineyards of Poggio al Tesoro in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, within the renowned Bolgheri area. The wine’s name pays direct tribute to the Seggio River, the watercourse that runs through and defines the entire production area. This geographical reference highlights the deep connection to the land and the soils where the vines grow, helping define the product’s authentic local identity.

How it is produced

Production starts with rigorous selection of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grapes. After destemming, alcoholic fermentation is carried out to fully extract the aromatic compounds and the characteristic ruby color from these varieties. Once complete, the wine rests for 15 months in French oak barriques, some of which are new. This lengthy aging process enhances the fruity character with spicy nuances and supports the smoothness and balance of the sip.

Tasting notes

On appearance, the wine shows an intense and deep ruby red color. The bouquet offers distinct aromas of blueberry and cherry, elegantly integrated with mineral notes and spicy undertones from barrel aging. On the palate, it is extremely soft and impeccably balanced, leading to a long, clean finish that stays true to the initial aromatic impressions.

Food Pairings

Thanks to its warmth, this red pairs beautifully with robust dishes such as roasts and braised meats. Its red fruit notes and delicate spiciness are a magnificent complement to slow-cooked dishes, while the smooth texture of the sip balances the richness of accompanying sauces. It’s also an ideal match for flavorful game-based dishes, where its persistent taste and clean finish enhance the intense flavors of the meat.

When to serve

This Bolgheri label is the perfect choice for complex lunches and dinners, bringing elegance and substance to the table. Its harmonious profile makes it ideal for convivial occasions featuring hearty, flavorful menus and enhances every bite until the last glass. Its enveloping character and well-balanced sip ensure a rewarding tasting experience throughout the meal, offering every guest a wine of great purity and persistence.
