Description

What kind of wine it is

The Brunello di Montalcino by Villa da Filicaja is a Tuscan red wine made from Sangiovese grapes grown in the municipality of Montalcino. Vinification involves fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and an extended maceration on the skins, followed by a lengthy aging in Slavonian oak barrels. This process gives the wine a structured and elegant style, characterized by a clear aromatic profile and a pronounced capacity for aging over time.

Where it comes from

This red is produced in the municipality of Montalcino, Tuscany, within the renowned Brunello di Montalcino designation. The vineyards are located on the south-western slope of the area, a zone historically suited for grape growing. Its geographical origin is clearly reflected in its distinctive character, closely linked to its place, and delivers mineral notes that faithfully express the peculiarities of the Montalcino terroir.

How it is produced

The Sangiovese grapes are harvested by hand at the beginning of October and then destemmed and crushed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with frequent pump-overs and délestage, while the maceration on the skins lasts about twenty-five days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for thirty-six months. Blending and resting follow before bottling in the spring, with further bottle aging before release to the market.

Tasting notes

Visually, it displays a bright ruby red color that gradually shades to garnet. The nose offers a distinctive and continuous bouquet, highlighted by clear aromas of cherry and wild berries. The palate is deep and graceful, with a dense and velvety texture guiding an orderly taste progression. The finish reveals mineral sensations typical of the region, ensuring a long-lasting persistence.

Food pairings

This wine is best enjoyed with elaborate meat-based dishes, selections of aged cheeses, and game preparations. It effectively matches intense main courses and maintains a perfect balance of flavors. In Tuscan tradition, it is especially recommended with the classic bistecca alla fiorentina and stewed wild boar, traditional recipes that enhance its velvety texture and natural depth.

When to serve

It is ideal when you want to enjoy a noteworthy red, perfect for thoughtful lunches and dinners featuring complex dishes. The extended aging in wood and subsequent resting allow it to achieve remarkable harmony and great aromatic definition. It is an excellent choice both for convivial occasions and for long-term aging, as it continues to gain olfactory finesse over the years.
