Description
What kind of wine is it
The Chianti Classico by Leonardo da Vinci is a Tuscan red wine made from Sangiovese and Merlot. It displays a bright red color and a rich, elegant profile with a clear mineral stamp. It’s a food-friendly red, with a structured palate that’s never heavy.
Where it comes from
The grapes grow in the hilly area between Florence and Siena, at altitudes between 200 and 350 meters above sea level, with various exposures, mostly south-facing. The soils are galestro, alberese and clay-limestone, rich in fossilized shells, which give the wine its mineral imprint. The Leonardo da Vinci winery is a Tuscan enterprise founded in Vinci in 1961, when thirty winegrowers decided to join forces to process the area’s grapes together.
How it is made
In the cellar, the skins remain in contact with the must for about ten to twelve days of maceration, while fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature. Aging takes place in temperature-controlled tanks to preserve the fruit’s freshness and the purity of the aromatic profile.
Tasting notes
In the glass it shows a bright red hue. The bouquet is dominated by red-fruit notes accompanied by a delicate hint of iris. On the palate it is rich, elegant and mineral, with good freshness that supports the fruit and extends the finish.
What it pairs with
Pairs with pasta dishes with hearty sauces, such as tagliatelle with ragù or pappardelle with wild boar, and with roasted meat mains. It also makes an excellent match with aged cheeses, where its structure and minerality complement the cheese’s savoriness.
When to serve it
This is a versatile Chianti Classico, suited to family dinners as well as Sunday lunch. Serve it in a large-bowled glass, opening the bottle shortly before bringing it to the table to let the fruit and floral notes emerge. Thanks to its balance, it’s a compelling choice for those who want an Tuscan red that is approachable and food-friendly.
