Description
What kind of wine it is
Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru La Croix by Pierre Girardin is a white wine made from Chardonnay grapes. This label provides a clear interpretation of its terroir of origin and stands out for its well-defined aromatic profile. The winemaking process combines the action of indigenous yeast with the use of new barriques, outlining a tense and mineral style that precisely enhances the characteristics of the raw material.
Where it comes from
Produced from over 70-year-old vines located around the village of Aloxe-Corton. These historic plants naturally yield small quantities, a fundamental factor for obtaining concentrated and optimally ripe grapes. Being part of the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru guarantees a highly distinctive production context. The interaction between the old vines and this specific soil gives the wine its unmistakable mineral character and remarkable structure.
How it is made
Alcoholic fermentation is started exclusively by indigenous yeast, a technical choice aimed at preserving the fruit’s integrity. This is followed by a maturation period in completely new oak barriques for 12 months, which builds structure without overpowering flavor dynamics. The wine then rests for a further 8 months in stainless steel containers, an essential step to ensure cleanliness and absolute precision in the final result.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it appears straw yellow, enhanced by slight golden reflections. On the nose, it offers an intense bouquet dominated by notes of tropical fruit and grapefruit, well accompanied by hints of hazelnut. On the palate, it shows a clear and linear progression, coming across as vibrant and supported by a definite mineral backbone. The finish is dry and clean, a sign of perfect balance and aromatic focus.
Food pairings
This white wine is particularly well-suited to seafood and white meat dishes. Its aromatic intensity pairs beautifully with shellfish and mollusks, while also complementing more delicate textures with just the right touch of savoriness. The citrus and toasted notes blend perfectly with scallops, enhancing their natural sweetness. It is also an excellent match for poultry in refined preparations, always ensuring a clean finish on the palate.
When to serve it
Perfect for formal occasions, this wine is ideal for lunches and dinners that demand a technical and rigorous presence at the table. Its structured character, developed through meticulous wood and steel aging, makes it the right choice when you want to serve a wine of distinctive taste and finesse. It performs elegantly in contexts that emphasize clear and complex profiles, guaranteeing a serving experience focused on balance, tension, and expressive clarity.
