Description

The 1er Grand Cru Classé A is a wine from Château Angélus, whose origins date back to 1910, the year the de Bouard family arrived in St. Emilion. Today, the vineyards cover 39 hectares, with 50% planted with Merlot, 47% with Cabernet Franc, and 3% with Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 1er Grand Cru Classé A from Château Angélus is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The grapes first undergo cryomaceration for a maximum of 5 days. Fermentation then takes place with whole bunches in concrete, steel, and wooden vats. Malolactic fermentation, instead, occurs in new French oak barrels. Finally, the wine matures for 18-24 months in new French oak barrels.

Ruby red with purple highlights, on the nose it reveals a rich and multi-layered bouquet of black fruit (blueberries, currants, blackberries) and cherry. The palate is smooth, with silky and enveloping tannins and a very long finish.

The 1er Grand Cru Classé A from Château Angélus is the perfect pairing for red meat dishes and braised or stewed game, as well as aged cheeses.
